History
About The Suncastle
The Suncastle was built in 1932 as a solarium and tea rooms. Built as the central feature of the North Shore development in Skegness, an advert from the time explains that “A large portion of this building will be a Solarium fitted with ultraviolet ray transmitting glass making it possible to acquire a sunburn even during dull weather.” The orchestra and ballroom dances were very popular during the early years and the bowling greens adjacent are still enjoyed today with regular competitions and the national tournament.
The Suncastle, like much of the East Coast, was heavily damaged by the North Sea Flood of 1953. Over the decades since the Suncastle was redeveloped as a public house, restaurant, reading room and café hosting a wide range of events and functions. Finally, the Suncastle was transformed into a multi-purpose family entertainment venue & pub.
